LEAD Program
The National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) at Monroe Community College
The Office of Student Life & Leadership Development is excited to continue offering a new Leadership Development Program to our students.
The NSLS is an active student leadership organization available for membership at the beginning of our fall and spring semesters. A member of the Student Life Team serves as Chapter Advisor.
The NSLS is the largest and only accredited leadership honor society in the nation, with more than 700 chapters and over 1.5 million members.
With a flexible online curriculum, and optional face to face special events, the NSLS Foundations of Leadership is perfect for all students, especially those who are balancing full course loads with families and full-time jobs.
It aligns with our mission of teaching students skills that will last a lifetime.
Over 300 students accepted NSLS nomination Fall 2023 semester.
Throughout the program, students hone valuable, in-demand skill sets that hiring managers specifically look for: Leadership, Relationship-building, Goal-setting, and Effective Communication.
The mission of the NSLS is to build leaders who make a better world. It offers life-changing lectures from the nation's leading presenters and communities where like-minded, success-oriented individuals come together and help one another succeed.
NSLS Helps with work Skills:
- Communication
Communication is more than being able to talk to people, it also includes active listening. As a leader, you need to be able to share a long-term vision and the steps to get there. But you also need to listen to your team members to understand their perspective, ideas, and challenges. - Attitude
Attitude is everything in the modern workplace; a leader needs to be open-minded, approachable, ready to hear and embrace new ideas, and be genuine. And when I say genuine, I mean authentic. - Time Management
It may not seem like it, but time management will indirectly help everyone else on your team. If you cannot manage your time efficiently, it’s difficult for you to be an effective leader. - Delegation
In order to build that next level of leadership, you must learn how to delegate to others on your team. Every project and task cannot go through you because then it will be impossible to scale. - Decision Making
Often, this is viewed as one of the more difficult skills to learn and improve because it usually requires practice making decisions. - Teamwork (and Team Building)
Teamwork is the We vs. Me. It’s a simple skill to learn but it is not easy for everyone to embrace. All too often we spend time talking about me; this is what I can do, I can get that done, I’ll do that.
MCC Student Testimonials About NSLS Fall 2023 Semester:
So far, I am finding the NSLS speakers, SNT meeting, and the entire program at large to be a strong motivating factor at this point in my education and career journey. Thank you so much for giving me renewed energy to push forward. -- Alexander
Both the NSLS speakers and SNT meetings have helped me tremendously towards achieving my goals. They have helped me realize to always look at the positive situations. I learned that although things you want to accomplish may take time, it is always best to just keep working hard and not get upset if it is not working exactly how you imagined. These meetings and speakers have helped me develop a better version of myself. I have learned that good things take time. -- Courtney
The SNT meetings have so far been very helpful. The advice given by students that are close to graduating while I am in my first semester has been very insightful. Last meeting one of the students suggested a specific book to help me with writing papers and I got it from the library. So far it has been very helpful in writing my research paper for my current English class. -- Billy
Being able to discuss with other members during SNT meetings about my goal is very beneficial to me. I love good feedback and always get this from other members. I can then take this feedback into consideration and use it towards reaching my goal. -- Dale
The NSLS speakers have given me great insights on what my priorities should be moving forward and how to start achieving my goals. The NSLS speakers have great tips and tricks on how to achieve and plan a pathway to success. -- Isabella
I watched all the On Demand Speaker Broadcasts and some of the Speaker Broadcasts from the Broadcast Archives now. During SNT meetings we discuss ideas and tips for achieving our SMART goals. We talked about what we are doing presently for employment and how that impacted our Action Steps. -- Anh
