Academic Advisement

Academic Advising: Your Pathway to Success
At Monroe Community College (MCC), we believe that academic advising is a cornerstone of your educational journey. Our dedicated advising team is here to support you every step of the way, ensuring that you have the guidance and resources you need to achieve your academic goals, complete your program, and take the next steps toward transfer or your future career.
What to Expect: Your Success Coach
As a matriculated student, you will be paired with a Success Coach who will be your primary or secondary contact for course advisement each semester. Your Success Coach will be assigned based on your chosen pathway and will serve as your go-to person for guidance, support, and advising from the moment you enroll until you graduate.
Your Success Coach will help you navigate course selections, ensure you're staying on track with your goals, and offer advice to keep you progressing toward graduation. They will also help connect you with other valuable campus resources as needed, supporting your success both academically and personally.
Schedule Your Advising Appointment
Before registering for classes each semester, it's important to schedule an appointment with your assigned Success Coach. You can easily find your Success Coach through Degree Works at Degree Works > Academic Advisement > Monroe Community College, and make an appointment through Starfish, our scheduling platform.
To access Starfish, ensure your myMCC account is set up. Once logged in, you can book your advising session and get the personalized support you need.
Why Academic Advising Matters
“Academic advising is a developmental process which assists students in the clarification of their life/career goals and in the development of educational plans for the realization of these goals. It is a decision - making process by which students realize their maximum educational potential through communication and information exchanges with an advisor; it is ongoing, multifaceted, and the responsibility of both student and advisor. The advisor serves as a facilitator of communication, a coordinator of learning experiences through course and career planning and academic progress review, and an agent of referral to other campus agencies as necessary” (NACADA, 1982).
We’re excited to be part of your journey and look forward to helping you succeed at MCC!
